Terms of Service
Last updated: 22 August 2026
These Terms of Service ("Terms") govern your use of the website notforconsumption.com.au (the "Site") and your purchase of products from not for consumption ("not for consumption", "we", "us" or "our").
By accessing or using the Site, placing an order, or otherwise using our services, you agree to these Terms. If you do not agree with these Terms, please do not use the Site or purchase our products.
1. About not for consumption
not for consumption creates and sells handmade cold-process soaps and related personal-care products.
Our products are handmade in small batches. Because of this, there may be minor variations in colour, shape, size, texture, scent, finish or appearance between individual products and between batches. These variations are a normal characteristic of handmade products and are not necessarily defects.
Our products are made to be used as personal-care products and are not food. Despite their appearance, scents or names, our products must never be eaten or intentionally ingested.
2. Using our website
You agree to use the Site only for lawful purposes and in a way that does not:
- breach any applicable law or regulation;
- interfere with or disrupt the Site or its security;
- attempt to gain unauthorised access to our systems or information;
- copy, reproduce, scrape or commercially exploit Site content without our permission;
- introduce malicious software, viruses or other harmful material; or
- infringe the rights of us or any third party.
We may suspend or restrict access to the Site where reasonably necessary, including for maintenance, security, technical issues or suspected misuse.
3. Product information
We make reasonable efforts to ensure that product descriptions, photographs, prices, ingredients and other information on the Site are accurate and up to date.
However:
- colours may appear differently depending on your device or screen;
- handmade products may vary slightly from photographs;
- product availability may change without notice;
- minor variations may occur between batches; and
- product information may occasionally contain errors or omissions.
If we discover an error in a product description, price or other material information, we may contact you to correct the error before fulfilling an order or, where appropriate, cancel the affected order and provide a refund.
Nothing in these Terms excludes or limits any rights you have under the Australian Consumer Law.
4. Ingredients, allergies and product suitability
Ingredients and relevant product information are provided on the applicable product page where available.
You are responsible for reviewing the ingredients of a product before purchasing or using it, particularly if you have allergies, sensitivities or other individual requirements.
If you are unsure whether a product is suitable for you, you should seek appropriate professional advice before using it.
You should stop using a product if irritation, discomfort or an adverse reaction occurs.
We are not responsible for a reaction caused by an ingredient or other characteristic of a product where the relevant information was disclosed to you and the product was otherwise supplied in accordance with applicable law.
Nothing in these Terms is intended to exclude liability that cannot lawfully be excluded.
5. Orders
When you place an order through the Site, you are making an offer to purchase the selected products.
An order is not accepted merely because you receive an order confirmation or payment acknowledgement. We may need to verify an order before accepting it.
We may decline or cancel an order where reasonably necessary, including where:
- a product is unavailable;
- there is an obvious pricing or product-description error;
- we reasonably suspect fraudulent or unauthorised activity;
- we are unable to fulfil the order; or
- circumstances outside our reasonable control prevent fulfilment.
If we cancel an order after payment has been received, we will refund the amount paid for the cancelled order.
6. Prices and payment
All prices displayed on the Site are in Australian dollars (AUD) unless otherwise stated.
Prices may change from time to time. A price change will not affect an order that we have already accepted, except where required to correct an obvious error.
You must provide accurate and complete payment and billing information.
Payment is processed through the payment methods made available at checkout. We do not ordinarily have access to your complete payment-card details.
7. Custom and bulk orders
We may accept custom or bulk orders by arrangement.
Custom orders may require a deposit before production begins. The final price may depend on factors including order quantity, product design, complexity, requested additives, packaging and other requirements.
Custom orders generally require significant advance notice because our soaps require curing time and production planning. The expected timeframe will be discussed with you before the order is confirmed.
Once a custom order has been accepted and production has commenced, cancellation or changes may not be possible except where required by law or agreed by us.
Any deposit, cancellation or refund arrangements for a custom order will be communicated to you before the order is accepted.
8. Shipping and delivery
We ship orders to locations listed as available at checkout.
Shipping costs, delivery estimates and available shipping services are set out in our Shipping Policy and may vary according to destination, service and order size.
Delivery time estimates are estimates only and are not guarantees. Delays can occur because of postal services, customs, weather, transport disruptions or other circumstances outside our reasonable control.
For international orders, you are responsible for complying with the laws of the destination country and, where applicable, for customs duties, taxes, import charges or other fees imposed by the destination country.
Risk in the products will be dealt with in accordance with applicable Australian law.
9. Returns, refunds and Australian Consumer Law
Because our products are personal-care items, we generally do not accept returns simply because you have changed your mind, subject always to any rights you have under applicable law.
However, nothing in our returns or refund policy limits, excludes or modifies your rights under the Australian Consumer Law.
If a product has a problem that gives you a right to a remedy under the Australian Consumer Law, you may be entitled to a repair, replacement, refund or other remedy depending on the circumstances.
Our current Refund Policy forms part of these Terms and should be read together with them.
If you believe there is a problem with an order or product, please contact us as soon as reasonably possible at:
communications@notforconsumption.com.au
Please include your order number and, where relevant, photographs or other information that may help us assess the issue.
10. No change-of-mind returns
Subject to your rights under the Australian Consumer Law, we do not generally accept change-of-mind returns because our products are personal body-care products.
You should check the ingredients and product information before purchasing.
A "no change-of-mind returns" policy does not apply where a refund, replacement or other remedy is required by law.
11. Product care and use
You agree to use our products only for their intended purpose and in accordance with any instructions or warnings provided with the product.
In particular:
- do not eat or intentionally ingest our products;
- keep products away from children and pets where appropriate;
- avoid contact with eyes unless the product is specifically intended for such use;
- discontinue use if irritation or an adverse reaction occurs; and
- store products appropriately to help maintain their condition and longevity.
You are responsible for using products reasonably and appropriately.
12. Intellectual property
Unless otherwise stated, the Site and its contents are owned by or licensed to us.
This includes our:
- business name and branding;
- logos and graphics;
- product photographs;
- product descriptions;
- written content;
- designs;
- website layout and presentation; and
- other original material appearing on the Site.
You may access and use the Site for personal, non-commercial purposes.
You must not reproduce, modify, distribute, sell, publish, commercially exploit or create derivative works from our content without our prior written permission, except where permitted by law.
13. User communications and submissions
If you send us reviews, photographs, comments, suggestions, feedback or other material, you agree that we may use that material for legitimate business and promotional purposes where you have given us permission or where otherwise permitted by law.
You must not submit material that:
- is unlawful, misleading, defamatory or abusive;
- infringes another person's intellectual property or privacy rights;
- contains malicious software; or
- otherwise exposes us to legal liability.
We are not required to publish or retain any submission.
14. Third-party services and links
The Site may use third-party services, platforms, payment providers, delivery providers, social-media services and other third-party technology.
We are not responsible for the content, availability, security or practices of third-party services that are outside our reasonable control.
Where the Site contains links to third-party websites, those links are provided for convenience only. Your use of third-party websites is subject to their own terms and policies.
15. Website availability
We aim to keep the Site available and functioning properly, but we do not guarantee that:
- the Site will always be available;
- the Site will be uninterrupted or error-free;
- all content will always be current;
- the Site will be free from viruses or other harmful components; or
- the Site will be compatible with every device or browser.
We may modify, suspend or discontinue any part of the Site without notice where reasonably necessary.
16. Limitation of liability
To the maximum extent permitted by law, we exclude liability for loss or damage arising from your use of the Site that is not caused by our breach of these Terms or otherwise recoverable under applicable law.
Nothing in these Terms excludes, restricts or modifies any guarantee, condition, warranty, right or remedy that cannot lawfully be excluded, restricted or modified.
Where the Australian Consumer Law applies, our liability is subject to the rights and remedies provided by that law.
17. Events outside our control
We are not responsible for delays or failure to perform our obligations where the delay or failure is caused by circumstances beyond our reasonable control.
This may include natural disasters, extreme weather, fire, flood, epidemic or pandemic, industrial action, transport disruption, postal delays, government action, communication or technology failures, supply shortages or other events beyond our reasonable control.
Where such an event affects an order, we will take reasonable steps to notify you and minimise the impact where practicable.
18. Privacy
Our collection and handling of personal information is governed by our Privacy Policy.
By using the Site, you acknowledge that your personal information may be collected, used and disclosed as described in our Privacy Policy and as otherwise permitted or required by law.
19. Changes to these Terms
We may update these Terms from time to time to reflect changes to our business, products, services, website, legal requirements or other circumstances.
The updated Terms will be posted on the Site with a revised "Last updated" date.
Changes will not retrospectively alter rights or obligations that have already arisen, except where permitted or required by law.
20. Governing law
These Terms are governed by the laws applicable in Australia.
To the extent permitted by law, disputes arising in connection with these Terms or your use of the Site will be subject to the courts with appropriate jurisdiction in Australia.
Nothing in this section prevents you from exercising any rights or remedies available to you under applicable consumer protection laws.
21. Severability
If any provision of these Terms is found to be invalid, unlawful or unenforceable, that provision will be read down or removed to the minimum extent necessary, and the remaining provisions will continue to apply.
22. Entire agreement
These Terms, together with our applicable policies and any additional terms expressly provided to you in connection with a particular product or service, form the agreement between you and us concerning your use of the Site and purchase of our products, to the extent permitted by law.
